Q. A 20-year-old female is brought to the emergency room by an ambulance after fainting in class. The patient was referred by the college nurse due to frequent episodes. The first episode occurred a year ago when the patient’s roommate died from a myocardial infarction. Since then, the patient has experienced several episodes, mostly brought on by strong emotion. She reports blurred vision, dizziness, and weakness preceding each episode. The episodes last approximate 3 to 5 minutes. The patient’s past medical history is unremarkable and she is not taking any medications. She does not use tobacco, illicit drugs, or consumes alcohol. On examination, the patient’s blood pressure is 110/70 mmHg while standing and 106/68 while supine. The physical examination is unremarkable. An ECG is also normal. What would be the next best step in managing this patient?
