Q. A 40-year-old woman comes to the ER with fatigue, a slowly developing yellowing of her skin and the "whites of the eyes" for the past three months. As well, she has noticed "cola-colored", dark red urine when she wakes up in the morning.
Clinical examination shows a yellow discoloration to the skin and eyes.
Laboratory studies are sent (see results below). Peripheral blood smear is normal.
