Air or gas that is entrapped in the subcutaneous tissues
Etiologies
Trauma during mechanical ventilation
Surgery
Infection (e.g., gas gangrene)
Symptoms
Gurgling noises during breathing
Painless soft tissue swelling often around the upper chest, neck, and face
Diagnostics
Chest x-ray
