Proteinuria is the excretion of more than 150 mg/day of protein.
4 types of proteinuria: glomerular, tubular, overflow, postrenal.
DIAGNOSIS
24-hour urine analysis.
CAUSES
Transient proteinuria: fever, intense exercise, acute illness, dehydration, stress.
Serious causes: diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive nephropathy, polycystic kidney disease, sarcoidosis, rhabdomyolysis, preeclampsia, eclampsia.
