Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome is caused by gastrinomas, which are the most common pancreatic and duodenal tumors in

Neuroendocrine tumor in the pancreas and">MEN 1 that are recurring and/or resistant to traditional ulcer treatment.

Gastrinomas can be benign or malignant; metastasis to the bones, liver, and lungs via lymph.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

Mucosal lesions cause abdominal pain and bleeding, diarrhea, heartburn, and potentially GI tract rupture.

DIAGNOSIS

Symptoms, gastrin levels, and imaging to locate the tumors are used in diagnosis.

TREATMENT

Proton-pump inhibitors or octreotide can be used to limit gastric acid secretion and alleviate symptoms.

Tumor removal is ideal, if possible. Stomach removal may be necessary.
