Cholesteatoma
Cholesteatoma with perforated tympanic membrane.

Cholesteatoma

Board Highlights
  • Cystic, 1-4 cm diameter lesion within the middle ear canal that derives from a nest of keratinized squamous epithelial overgrowth or mucus-secreting epithelium.
  • If the inflammatory medium surrounding the cholesteatoma becomes severe enough, it may erode into the ear ossicles and cause conductive hearing loss.
