Choledocholithiasis
Gallstone obstruction of the common bile duct, which leads to increased biliary tree pressure.
Obstructing stones can originate in the gallbladder or within the common bile duct itself.
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS
Increased biliary tree pressure leads to elevated liver enzymes and jaundice.
Pain in the upper right abdominal quadrant can be mild to severe, constant or intermittent.
DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT
Diagnosis & treatment may involve endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and/or laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
COMPLICATIONS
Gallstone pancreatitis (when the stone blocks the ampulla of Vater)
Cholangitis
