Budd-Chiari Syndrome
Rare syndrome, caused by occlusion of the hepatic veins.
Signs and Symptoms:
Pain in upper right abdominal area
Hepatomegaly
Ascites (accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity)
Complications
Impaired liver function
Usually caused by factors that cause the blood to clot
Blood clot disorders
Pregnancy
Polycythemia
Etc.
Treatment
Drugs to dissolve or prevent blood clotting
Angioplasty to clear vein
Creation of alternative route for blood flow
