Budd-Chiari Syndrome
  • Rare syndrome, caused by occlusion of the hepatic veins.
  • Signs and Symptoms:
    • Pain in upper right abdominal area
    • Hepatomegaly
    • Ascites (accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity)
  • Complications
    • Impaired liver function
  • Usually caused by factors that cause the blood to clot
    • Blood clot disorders
    • Pregnancy
    • Polycythemia

    • Angioplasty to clear vein
    • Creation of alternative route for blood flow
