Visual Field Defect: Homonymous Hemianopia
In the optic tract (“C1”), it is usually complete, incongruous, without macular sparing. In the optic radiations (“C2”) it is usually incomplete, congruous, with macular sparing (“C2” in Fig. 3.3). In the calcarine cortex “C3” it is usually complete, congruous and with macular sparing, but may show associated scotomata.

lesion anywhere from optic tract to occipital cortex
The most common major visual field deficit (not surprising, given the wide anatomical area that can cause this defect).
Common causes:
  • Vascular Accidents: Strokes/Intracranial Hemorrhages (See PCA stroke and macular sparing)
  • Tumors/Masses
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
