7th Nerve Palsy

Cranial Nerve 7 Palsy is best known as a Bell's Palsy and is most commonly idiopathic - See "STROKE VS BELL'S PALSY" for a detailed analysis of facial palsy.
CN 7 innervates the muscles of facial expression, provides important autonomic innervation to the mucosal surfaces of the face (lacrimation, salivation), and plays a major role in taste sensation.
CN 7 neuropathy results in facial paralysis, dryness of the eyes and mouth, and loss of taste sensation, and also results in hyperacusis (a sensitivity to loud sounds).
