Intraventricular Hemorrhage
Intraventricular Hemorrhage (IVH)
Primary IVH (~ 30%)
- Confined to the ventricular system.
- Arises from an intraventricular source or a source that is contiguous to the ventricles.
- Eg, Examples intraventricular trauma, aneurysm, vascular malformation, and choroid plexus tumor, usually involving the choroid plexus.
Secondary IVH (~ 70%)
- Extension of an intraparenchymal hemorrhage.
- Extension of subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Risk factors for intraventricular hemorrhage
- Older age
- Large ICH volume
- Hypertension
- Deep, subcortical structure sites of hemorrhage
- Putamen (35%–50%), cerebral lobes (30%), thalamus (10%–15%).
