– Gram-positive bacteria
Staphylocci (including MRSA)
Enterococci (including VRE)
Streptococci
Clostridium
Some anaerobic cocci.
– Binds the 50S subunit
Inhibits the initiation complex and blocks protein synthesis.
– Myelosuppression (decreased bone marrow activity)
– Serotonin syndrome (particularly when given to patients who take antidepressants).
