Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus
This virus often produces asymptomatic or mild respiratory or gastrointestinal illnesses, but severe infection can occur.
Symptoms of severe infection vary, but can include fever, pain, headache, nausea, and vomiting;
encephalitis or meningitis may occur.
Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses
Illness often begins with flu-like symptoms, followed by neurologic and vascular effects.
Organ necrosis, particularly of the liver and lymphoid organs, is common.
Lassa Virus causes Lassa hemorrhagic fever, and is found in
West Africa.
Junin Virus causes
Argentine hemorrhagic fever.
Machupo Virus causes
Bolivian hemorrhagic fever.
Guanarito Virus causes
Venezuelan hemorrhagic fever.
