Avulsion vs Compression Fractures

Avulsion
In avulsion fracture, the bone fragment is completely pulled off the end of the bone.
Compression
In compression fracture, there is flattening of the bone. These often occur in the setting of osteoporosis, where the bone cannot easily support mechanical stress. If osteoporosis is the cause of the fracture, then it would be considered a pathologic fracture.
